Our History

The SNC Journey

A Journey Begins

2008

In 2008, nine girls, along with Ms. Archana, embarked on a journey across India to explore thoughtful and meaningful approaches to living, working, and evolving. Along the way, they met visionary individuals, engaged with diverse spaces, welcomed unfamiliar ideas, and reflected deeply on everything they encountered. It became a year of quiet understanding—shaping how they would live and move forward. What began as an exploration gradually deepened into a search for rootedness—a longing to live what had been seen and sensed. This next step quietly began to unfold in the forests of the Himalayas.

Where Stillness Took Root

Spring 2009

The journey took a new shape at Shyamavan—located in Khumera, a quiet village in the Kedarnath valley. Surrounded by dense forest, the quiet movement of wildlife, and a river flowing nearby, the group settled into a modest house and began to move into a slower rhythm of shared living—simple, grounded, and open to the unfolding. Days were shaped by small actions and quiet routines. Life at Shyamavan invited attentiveness—both to the land and to each other.

A New Rhythm Emerges

November 2009

The arrival of children brought a natural shift. Their presence filled the space with curiosity, energy, and quiet wonder. Days unfolded through shared work, exploration, creative expression, and mindful engagement. Learning began to grow naturally—through observation, experience, and a deepening connection with the world around them. Shyamavan has evolved into a living space of growth and unfolding—nurtured through simplicity, warmth, and quiet strength. Here, living and learning are interwoven, moving together with gentle attentiveness.
